Connection grab Jabloteh players.

T&T Newsday Reports.
10-Feb-2006 - Devon Mitchell and Michael Celestine have been snapped up by Vibe CT 105 W Connection for the upcoming 2006 Pro League football season. The San Juan Jabloteh players have represented Trinidad and Tobago at the Under-23 level under coach Stuart Charles Fervier. Mitchell joined the San Juan club at the age of 21 but Celestine came up through Jabloteh’s youth programme and have spent five years there. W Connection’s President David John-Williams confirmed the transfer and said he was delighted to have the two young talented players on board. “These players are young with an enormous amount of potential. Our Technical Director Stuart Charles-Fervier has always been interested in Devon Mitchell.
We believe he has tremendous ability and we feel we may be able to get the best out of him. And we hope both players can reach their true potential,” John-Williams said. W Connection’s coach Charles-Fervier was also happy with the two recent signings. He told ttproleague.com: “These are two very young players that can be a real asset in our squad this coming season. I have worked with them both as coach of the national Under 23 team. I have always liked Devon as a striker. He is a good goal-scorer and a very penetrative type player. “As for Celestine, he is a naturally left-footed player and while he is a midfielder we will be exploring the possibilities of using him as a utility player probably as an overlapping left wing back.”
Mitchell said his ambition is to get on to the national team and he is looking for more playing time and the possibility of securing a contract overseas. “I want to open up as many opportunities for myself. I am not getting any younger and I want to play the game at the highest level, and I hope at Connection I will be able to achieve my goals,” said the 25-year-old striker. His teammate, 24 year old Celestine expressed similar sentiments. “As far as I see, it’s time to take my career to the next level. I experienced a bit of frustration at Jabloteh last season, not getting any first team playing time and I thought it was time for a change. I think it’s a great move for me at this time. I am going to work hard next season with Connection and hope good things come my way,” he said.

Jason Scotland and Devon Mitchell on trial at Latapy's club.

By: Shaun Fuentes.
9-May-2003 - Trinidad and Tobago strike due Jason Scotland and Devon Mitchell are currently on trial with Scottish Premier League club Dundee United, team of former T&T skipper Russell Latapy.
The two players arrived at the club last week and are there in the midst of United's battle to avoid last spot as the season approaches end.
According to reports out of the club, the manager Ian McAlll is keen on seeing the capabilities of both players who will remain a week at the club and if they impress, further steps will be taken to secure their work permits.
These moves have been orchestrated by English-based agent Mike Berry who is agent of T&T goalkeeper Clayton Ince and Wrexham trio Hector Sam, Dennis Lawrence and Carlos Edwards.
Latapy meantime has three more games left for the season with United who face off with Marvin Andrews' Livingston on Saturday.
Both United and cellar placed Motherwell have played 35 games with the former ahead by one point.
Meanwhile, local defender Brent Sancho should have a deal with the other Scottish club Dundee tied up within the next couple of weeks. Dundee spotted the player during their tour of Trinidad earlier this year. His deal is being made possible through the efforts of Pro Sports Caribbean who has Englishman Terry Fenwick and Peter Miller as their representatives.
Fenwick told TTFF Media that he continues to look out for the interest of the T&T players and was also responsible for Mitchell's trial with Falkirk last year.
"I've obviously kept in touch with everything back in Trinidad. I'm very keen to look at the progress the young players are making because Trinidad and Tobago has got some really special kids that need to be given the right development. That will always be my interest and I'm sure once I get back into the game which at the moment I have a couple offers I'm considering which won't happen until the end of the season. I'm sure then I will come back to Trinidad for one or two players," Fenwick said
"Josh Johnson, Devon Mitchell and Cornell Glenn are some of the names that I can think of. With the right management and guidance I think these boys can do very well here. There are lot of players just that need to be coached and guided. Their natural abilities are terrific and that's what I took to Jabloteh and I expect them to really continue this.

Devon Mitchell and Colin Samuels denied work permits

2001 - Falkirk FC have deemed the decision to prevent the approval of work permits for local players Devon Mitchell and Colin Samuel as unfair.
Samuel's and Mitchell's cases were considered and rejected by the Department for Education and Employment and then following an independent appeal held in Edinburgh, Scotland last Wednesday, Falkirk were again told that the permit bids had been rejected.
According to a release from the Falkirk club, "the overriding reason was that the board of appeal, made up of ex-footballers and football correspondents, felt that the two players did not bring a new dimension to the ' workplace'."
Club chairman Campbell Christie who saw both players perform creditably while on trial a few weeks ago, was disappointed to say the least.
"We are bitterly disappointed at the outcome of the appeal. We believe it is wholly unfair and obviously based on a strict interpretation of rules which make it impossible for smaller clubs like Falkirk to develop international relationships that would be beneficial to the Club and to Scottish football.
"The rules favour big clubs who can afford to pick and choose which international players they want to bring to Scotland and it means that Clubs like Falkirk miss out on a valuable experience for players and fans alike. The two young Trinidadian players added a whole new dimension to our young playing squad while they were with us for a short period in the summer,” said Christie. The club has decided to appeal the decision again.
