Reigning champion WASA FC was stunned 2-0 by visiting Club Sando, on the opening day of the 2013 blink/bmobile National Super League season, last evening, at WASA Ground, St Joseph.

Second-half goals from former St Ann’s Rangers midfielder Devon Modeste (48th) and capped player Kwame Wiltshire gave the improved Club Sando outfit the outright win.

Simultaneously, Malabar FC also recorded a big win, when the newly-promoted, star-studded club sealed a 2-1 win away to FC Santa Rosa, on its debut. Former national player Hayden Tinto and ex-Central FC midfielder got the goals for Malabar, both of which were scored in the first half. Tinto scored the opener in the ninth minute, before Santa Rosa’s Kendall Sealy tied the match up in the 26th. Only four minutes elapsed before Glen sealed what proved to be the winner.

Another newly-promoted club Guaya United could not have asked for a better result on its league debut. The club travelled to the Marvin Lee Stadium and held 2012 treble winner Joe Public to a goalless draw. Only one other match was played. Real Maracas dropped Siparia Spurs 3-1, in St Joseph. Bethel United, the third promoted team was on a bye this weekend. Action will continue with two fixtures on Wednesday to complete Match Day One.
