Two times Caribbean Club Champions, Central F.C., continued their preparations for their Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League fixture against Vancouver Whitecaps on 2nd August, by signing T&T national team midfielder, Keron Cummings.

Cummings, who spent last season at North East Stars, will join national team captain, Kenwyne Jones at Central as they prepare for their Champions League campaign. Although the club have retained the majority of their record breaking “double double” winning team who claimed successive domestic and regional titles when they won back to back Digicel TT Pro League and CFU Caribbean Club Championship titles in 2015 & 2016, The Sharks are still looking to add one or two more quality players to their squad.

“We're very pleased to have Ballpest (Cummings) on board” said Head Coach Dale Saunders. “He is an exciting player and we're looking forward to seeing him gel with our existing squad. Cummings played for Central F.C. in their first season in 2012, so it's great to see him back in a Sharks jersey”

Saunders said that the signing continues the clubs tradition of supporting the national team. “We only have one foreign player, goalkeeper Akel Clarke. We always look to sign local players wherever possible” said Saunders, himself a former T&T national player. “Both Kenwyne and Keron need competitive football before the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, so it’s a good fit for us and the national team”

Jones, who was signed on loan from Atlanta United, who will be joining the MLS next season, is still awaiting international clearances for his move to be complete.

“There's been a delay in the transfer from Jones' previous club to Atlanta, so that's holding things up. However, all of his paperwork is signed and ready to go as soon as Atlanta confirms his clearance.” explained Saunders.

Another T&T favourite who may be seen in Central's colours is Carlos Edwards.

“Carlos has been training with us and we have talked about his options” said Saunders. “He's received several offers from English clubs, but I believe he would love the opportunity to play Champions League football.”

Off the field, the preparations continue for Tuesday’s big game. Vancouver Whitecaps will be arriving directly from an MLS game on Sunday. The game will be televised live on several channels to a large global audience.

“It's the opening game of this seasons Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, so we expect a big TV audience and we hope to have a large crowd at Ato Boldon Stadium to project Trinidad & Tobago in a good light.” said Saunders

Central F.C. will compete in Group C, against two MLS clubs, Sporting Kansas City and Vancouver Whitecaps.

Whitecaps are the first Canadian club to qualify for SCCL in two successive years, and will be the first Canadian club to face “The Sharks”
