CHINAPOO Youth Police Club are the champions of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs Under-20 Football Tournament.

They achieved this after beating God Is in the final at the weekend at the Eddie Hart Football ground, Tacarigua.

Afterwards coach Eloy Burge said he was generally pleased with the performance and attitude of the players and attributed the victory to the Morvant Laventille Community- where the team reside.

The victory for the Morvant youth comes amidst the spate of violent crimes being committed in the area.

Burge was particularly pleased with his team’s triumph as he stressed that most of the positives that come out of the area, are not highlighted.

He made it clear that there has been a lot of encouraging achievements emanating from the Morvant Laventille community- in areas such as education, culture and now sports.

Burge described the win also as an example of where sports can be used as a vehicle to nurture talent and instill discipline in our nation’s youth.

According to Burge “The youths of our community are under tremendous pressure and therefore there is a need for positive role models to keep them away from the crimes which have been plaguing the nation.” He urge the public and private sector to get involved as they strive for nation- building and people development.

Meanwhile the Police Youth Club will on Sunday July 11 host their annual Sports and Family Day Under-16 Football and Cricket tournaments at the Chinapoo Government Primary School grounds.
