Stern JohnCity have clinched the loan signing of Southampton forward Stern John until January 1st 2009.
The striker, 32 at the end of this month, passed a medical at Ashton Gate this morning and goes straight into the squad for tomorrow's Coca-Cola Championship match at Barnsley.

Manager Gary Johnson told bcfc.co.uk: "I'm happy we've been given the opportunity to sign Stern on loan until January.

"He's got good experience and has scored goals at this level and above throughout his career.

"He certainly adds to our striking options for what is a very busy period leading up to Christmas period.

"We have lots of games and need that competition."

John was Southampton's top scorer last season with 20 goals, and has enjoyed a career littered with impressive tallies.

The Trinidad & Tobago star has spent time with Nottingham Forest (18 goals in 49 starts), Birmingham City (16 goals in 42 starts) and Coventry City (26 goals in 65 starts).

And for his country John has racked up 96 caps and scored an amazing 65 international goals - a strike rate of 0.67.

John - who won't be eligible to face his parent club on November 8th - has been handed squad number 31.
