Clayton InceWalsall goalkeeper Clayton Ince has rubbished suggestions the young Saddlers side are too young to challenge for promotion.
Boss Chris Hutchings is eager to snap up some experience to complement his youthful side and has spoken to veteran defender Ian Breckin about a switch to the Banks’s Stadium.

At 36-years-old, Ince is the oldest member of the squad but feels - despite being an inexperienced side - they can compete for promotion.

He said: “We’ve been in this division two years and it’s a learning process. We have a very young team, a very small team and we’ve been doing excellently.

“If they really put their foot forward, they can play big clubs and compete with Leicester and Peterborough.

“It’s not impossible, all they have to do is work hard and achieve their goals.”

Understudy Rene Gilmartin and Chris Palmer have also agreed to stay at the Banks’s Stadium, but Sofiene Zaaboub has yet to commit.

Netan Sansara and Manny Smith remain the only two who have signed new deals.

Ince, who has made 142 appearances since signing on a free transfer from Coventry in 2006, believes Smith will continue to build on his impressive form.

The goalkeeper said: “He’s made himself permanent fixture in the starting 11 and it’s good to see that.”
