DIRECTV W Connection FC will be without the services of marquee player Joevin Jones for the start of the 2014/2015 TT Pro League Season and possibly through the end of season as he was signed on loan to HJK FC of Finland over the Independence Day weekend, hours ahead of the European Transfer Deadline day.

HJK, also called Helsinki as they are based in the capital city of Helsinki is the biggest and most successful club in Finnish football with 26 Championship titles under their belt. The current defending champions have had their eyes on the versatile 23 year old for quite some time, and found it necessary to take him up on loan as they seek to strengthen their squad ahead of their Europa League Group Stage Campaign. Jones has been one of the strongest players in the Trinidad domestic league for the last two years and his talents did not go unnoticed.

HJK is the only Finnish club to have played in the UEFA Champions’ League Group Stage, doing so in the 1998 – 1999 season, triumphing over FC Metz in the second qualifying round. They have 17 UEFA Champions League appearances, 17 UEFA Europa League appearances and four UEFA Cup Winners Cup appearances under their belt. They are currently in Group B of the twelve group Europa League and will meet the likes of Club Brugge KV of Belgium, Torino FC (ITA), and FC Kobenhavn (DEN).

Connection, who endeavor to send at minimum two players abroad per season are also without the services of Daneil Cyrus, who left earlier this year on loan to Hanoi TT of the Vietnam V-League and plays alongside former teammate Hughtun Hector, who has spent the last three years playing in the V-League.

Jones’ transfer to Finland will not be the first for the Central based team as Shahdon Winchester has been playing in the Finnish Premier Division for the last two seasons on loan to FF Jaro and is likely to make a move in the January transfer window.

Jones will head off to Finland on Tuesday to take up his contract and begin training with his new team.
