Champion team CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh will kick off action in the First Citizens Bank Cup competition of the T&T Professional Football League today, against Defence Force at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar, Arima, from 5 pm.

The match comes at a period when last season’s top team will be undergoing a busy six-day schedule.

After opposing Defence Force, Jabloteh will be engaged in an away league fixture against top-of-the-table North-East Stars on Sunday on the Sangre Grande Recreation Ground (4 pm) and three days later must take on Walking Boys of Suriname in the first leg of the Caribbean Football Union’s Club Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, from 7 pm.

Jabloteh’s English coach, Stephen Rutter, said yesterday, “It is a very busy time and we’ve worked very hard to make sure that we got to this part of the season with all players fit and available for selection.”

Jabloteh has had three matches against the sailor/soldier combination this season. The first two were league matches which both ended in draws while the San Juan-based team won the Pro Bowl fixture beating them, 3-0.

The San Juan side will get the chance of a last look at North-East Stars before Sunday’s match when the Sangre Grande-based footballers take on little-fancied Tobago United in the second match of a double-header at the Arima venue, from 7 pm.

A double-header is also carded for the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, where Starworld Strikers will oppose Arima Morvant Fire from 5 pm and Vibe CT 105 W Connection will play against South-West Drillers from 7 pm.

Holders of FCB employee identification cards and FCB bank cards will be admitted free of charge to matches in the competition.

According to CEO of the league, Dexter Skeene, this is just another way to show commitment to community development through football.
