Former T&T Professional Football League (PFL) champion CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh has applied to government for a parcel of land at Orange Grove, Arouca (opposite Trincity Mall), to build a football training facility for all their teams.
Jerry Hospedales, chairman of the San Juan Jabloteh, made the announcement on Monday at the clubs 31st prize-giving and awards function at Cascadia Hotel Ballroom, Ariapita Road, St Anns.
We have been liaising with government to obtain certain lands to establish facilities with a view to centralising our senior and youth operations and allowing for the more effective use of scarce technical resources in developing our player personal, said Hospedales.
We want to ensure training can take place in a structured atmosphere, added Hospedales. The flow of young players into this facility will come from four development centres which we are establishing in five areas Carenage, Arima/Tunapuna, San Juan, San Fernando and Forest Reserve.
Hospedales also revealed that Metro Stars of the United States MSL (Major Soccer League) will play two pre-season matches in March.
The top American side will oppose Jabloteh on March 16 and either the national senior team or another top professional team two days later.
The Metro Stars pre-season visit here is a direct result of the relationship established in the course of the transfer of Cornell Glen to Metro Stars earlier this year, stated Hospedales.
While national defender Keyeno Thomas was voted Most Valuable Player of the PFL team, the toast of the evening was the Under-14 Division players who played unbeaten in every competition in which they participated.
Key Under-14 striker Franz Husbands walked away with the Chairmans Award ahead of a host of top players who turned out for the national senior sideskipper Angus Eve, Thomas, Kery Baptiste, Daurance Williams, Nigel Daniel, Ian Grey Travis Mulrane, Trent Noel, Aurtis Whitley, Michael Celestine and Nigel Pierre.
Husbands played a key role in Jabloteh being a dominant Under-14 squad, Hospedales noted.
