The 2013 edition of the Guinness Street Football Challenge kicked off on Sunday in Tobago at the Plymouth Recreational Basketball Court.

The five-a-side small goal football competition is contested across several Caribbean countries, with national champions eventually meeting to determine the best team in the region.

Last year, the winners of the St Vincent & the Grenadines competition were crowned the Caribbean’s best when they beat favourites and hosts Guyana in Georgetown. Drifterz Answer Back from Tobago, represented T&T in Guyana last year and placed third overall.

At a recent launch, organisers Guinness promised a bigger and bolder 2013 competition, which will see more teams from more countries participating.

Gareth Geddes, brand manager for Guinness Caribbean and Central America, commented: “We are thrilled to be continuing the Guinness Street Football Challenge and delighted to be bringing the Finals to the home of the reigning champions, St Vincent. Guinness believes it’s better to be a player than a spectator and this is why we have added the individual Guinness Street Skills Challenge alongside the community team Guinness Street Football Challenge.

To compete and to win, you’ll have to be made of more.” “What’s more, 2013 includes the exciting introduction of an individual Street Football Skills Challenge, as Guinness invites you to upload videos of your best skills to the Guinness Caribbean Facebook page. Those who display the greatest skills earn a chance to compete in the regional final from June 19 to 21 in St Vincent. “

Registration for the competition has already begun and interested teams can call 37-GREAT (374-7328) to register a team for any of the following playoffs:
