BIL Barrackpore United Sports Club continued their flawless showing at this year’s edition of the Barrackpore Football League when they drubbed Clarke Rochard SC 6-0 as the fourth round of competition kicked off last week.

With this win, Barrackpore remained unbeaten and atop the Group ‘A’ standings on 12 points after four games played while Clarke Rochard SC are in sixth position on four points. The only other match played in this division saw third placed New Grant United (8pts) secure a close 1-0 win over fifth placed Jenexcon Tableland United SC (6pts).

Additionally in Group ‘B’, table leaders GPR Real Unity SC edged second placed Ronnie’s Electrical Strange Village United 1-0. The former are presently on nine points while the latter trail closely behind on six.

After the league was suspended in 2012, Barrackpore United were determined to once again prove their worth in the seventh edition of the League.

There was no competition in 2012 since most of the venues were being upgraded by the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago or the regional corporations. Works on most of the venues have been completed or are nearing completion, and this has allowed the tournament to resume this year.

For this competitive season, 14 teams are competing for over $30,000 in cash prizes, trophies and medals. The league and knockout competitions will be played out to mid-December and will keep with its objective of taking organised football to various communities in the southern districts.

Venues such as Kennedy Park, Lower Barrackpore Recreation Ground, Barrackpore Recreation Ground, Barrackpore Islamic Centre, Clarke Rochard Recreation Ground, Renown Recreation Ground, New Grant Recreation Ground, Tableland Recreation Ground and Cedar Hill Recreation Ground are being utilised for this year’s tournament.
