Kevon Blake smashed home a hat-trick, while Simeon Augustus and Chioke Carrera scored one goal each as Cumoto Strike Force maintained its 100 per cent record in the Churches’ Football League last weekend with a 5-0 blowout win over Daybreak United in Group A of the Premier Division.
The win kept Cumoto at the top of the standings after two match days. In another Premier Division fixture played over the weekend, KOB Kings came up big in a tight finish to edge Greater Malabar Christian Centre 3-2.
KOB enjoyed a strong start and was up 2-0 close to the end of the first half, before two of the team’s defenders clashed with a GMCC stiker in the penalty box to give Greater Malabar a chance at a come back. Curtis Charles converted the spot kick. Declan Scott scored Greater Malabar Christian Centre’s other goal in the second half, while Brandon Basdoe, Brendon Cassar and Kevon Alleyne scored KOB Kings’ three goals.
In Group B, Westend secured a big win, 5-2, against Global Encounter Ministries. Kyle Andrews was instrumental with a hat-trick for the winning team, which secured a second straight win. Westend, the away team won the league and knockout titles in 2012.
The other Group B encounter saw D’Abadie Deliverance Santuary seal a 3-1 away win over Woodbrook AIC. D’Abadie Deliverance, last year’s knockout finalist got its goals from Richard Perreira, Jereme Beepath and Richard Mathura.
In the First Division, Father’s House defeated Strictly FX A-Men FT, 1-0, while Genesis and Divine Encounter Fellowship played to a 1-1 draw, both in Group A. In Group B, Bethel FC cruised past VPA Overcomers 4-1, while People’s United Fellowship showed no mercy with a 8-0 thrashing over RCC. Action will continue in both divisions.
