The fifth edition of the annual Barrackpore Sports Association seven-a-side football competition kicks off today at Carrat Hill Trace in Barrackpore with defending champions Ronnie Electrical set to defend their title.

The tournament features 16 teams which will compete for a first prize of $6,000 in the league and $4,000 in today’s open knock-out one-day competition which gets under way from 3 p.m.

The runner-up in the knock out will pocket $2,000 while the league prizes include $3,000 for second place, $2,000 for third and $1,000 for fourth.

For the first time, the organisers have included a an over-40 competition for all older players to take part. The over-40 competition carries a first prize of $4,000.

The runners up will get $3,000 while third and fourth place teams will pocket $2,000 and $1,000 respectively. The league competitions are set to finish in the last week in November.
