Photo: Anthony HarrisShinelle Arjoon netted a double when defending champion Debe Secondary continued their winning ways with a crushing 4-1 victory over Vessigny in the South Zone of the BGTT/First Citizens Girls Secondary Schools Football League, yesterday.

In an exciting match at the Mahaica Oval in Point Fortin, Amanda Theodore found her second goal in as many matches, just five minutes into the kickoff. The match remained at 1-0 despite surges in attack from the travelling team Debe.

Just after the sound of the second half, however, Debe found a second goal from Arjoon in the 46th minute. It was not long before the team found a third goal, this time from national Under-17 player Kayla Taylor, who also found her second goal in as many matches.

Arjoon extended the lead for Debe in the 65th minute when she added her second item. Vessigny could only find consolation through T’keyah Phillip, who netted their only goal.

In the other South Zone match, Point Fortin East were holding a 1-0 lead over Holy Faith Convent when the losing team suffered a massive blow with an injury to Quishelle Torres.

The match was halted for ten minutes before officials decided to abandon the match. The player was rushed to hospital. Chelsea Ralph scored a hat-trick in Providence’s 6-0 crushing of Malick in the North Zone.

The match which was played at St Joseph Convent Ground, St Clair, opened with two goals from Ralph in the first half which was assisted by crafty midfielder Tayna Harris. Harris added the third to lead the side 3-0 to the break.

In the second half, the team played equally well with Ralph completing her hat-trick and Jordan Van Reeken helping out by netting two goals.

The Tobago Zone was expected to kick off yesterday, however, officials from the Tobago Zone said that the matches have been postponed to Thursday to accommodate referees who would have been involved in various other football matches.
