Debe Secondary captured their sixth straight BGTT First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) South Zone title after defeating nearest challengers Vessigny 3–0 in a rescheduled match, on Tuesday.

Debe completed the double over Vessigny by the same three goal margin after winning 4–1 last month. Shinelle Arjoon, who scored a double in their first meeting, was again on target, scoring mid-way through the first half, to give Debe the 1–0 lead at the interval.

Kayla Taylor also got on the score sheet, as she did in the first match, with ten minutes gone in the second half. Debe captain, Patrice Vincent wrapped up the scoring around the hour mark, to give the team the easy 3–0 win.

Vessigny rued the loss of key players Tineisha Cobham and twins Khadidra and Khadisha Debesbette, who were on national team duties.

The team, however, put up a good fight in the league winning five and drawing one of the eight matches. Arjoon amassed nine goals in six matches played, leading the team’s goal scorers. Amanda Theodore scored six goals, while Vincent and Taylor both got four goals.

Vincent, who netted Debe’s final goal, was described by coach Clive Auguste as an outstanding player and an inspiration to the team.

“She did exceptionally well to get the team to work together. She was also influential, playing well in attack and dropping into defence,” said Auguste.

Vincent will lead the Debe team in search for their fourth consecutive Nationals and Intercol title. Debe’s next challenge is at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella when they face Tobago champions Roxborough in the national semifinal.

It will be the first of a double-header at 3 pm (preceding the Boys Big Five semifinal). Last season, Debe captured the National and Intercol titles after defeating Roxborough by a 1–0 and 4–1 margin, respectively.
