Naparima College caused a huge upset yesterday when they hammered St Anthony’s College 5-1 for the Tigers’ first defeat in the 2014 campaign at their home ground in Westmoorings.
Jabari Mitchell got a double, while Nicholas Dillon, Matieon Watson and Stephon Smith were the other heroes for the southern side as the more committed Naps completely outplayed the previously unbeaten St Anthony’s. National Under-20 player Matthew Woo Ling got the lone item for the Tigers.
Despite the heavy defeat however, St Anthony’s remain at the top of the 14-team Premier Division of the BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division standings on 18 points despite the whipping by their southern counterparts.
Naparima leapfrogged from fourth into second spot and are now on 16 points while Trinity East, who battled St Benedict’s to a 0-0 result, dropped to third on 15. Benedict’s slipped from third to fourth on 14 points.
In other Premier Division games, East Mucurapo earned their first victory of the season when they registered a 1-0 win over Carpichaima East at QRC Ground, while Chaguanas North edged Arima North 1-0 in the two games featuring the bottom four teams.
Fatima and St Augustine also grinded out a 1-1 draw at Mucurapo Road, while San Juan North bettered St Mary’s College 2-0.
Meanwhile, Shiva Boys eked out a 1-0 victory over their Southern rivals Presentation College at Lewis Street.
