Reigning champion St Francois Nationals responded well to its opening round loss to hand Port Celtic a 5-2 defeat, when action continued in the Northern Football Association (NFA) Premier Division, on Wednesday.

The ever-reliable Marc Borde scored a brace, with his second lighting up the Queen’s Park Savannah, from a direct free-kick, while fellow forward Marlon Haywood complimented another spirited performance with the team’s third item.

Don Morris scored a penalty for St Francois, before Solomon Rigaul wrapped up the scoring for the winner in the 85th minute. Port Celtic, which suffered consecutive defeats after a 6-1 thrashing by QPCC over the weekend, started well and scored their goals early in the match, before it succumbed to St Francois’s onslaught.

Also on Wednesday, QPCC captured its second straight victory, this time 2-0 over Harvard, as did FC 1, which edged RSSR 2-1.

Malvern made a good start to the North Football Association 2013 season when they edged age-old arch-rivals Maple 3-2 at the Queen’s Park Savannah on Thursday. Firing in goals for the Woodbrook “Glamour Boys” were Antonio Hoyte, Marvin Pantin and Kendall Garcia.

Action continued on Thursday, with Petit Valley United also claiming its second straight win, 3-2, at the expense of Football Factory, which suffered successive losses. Round two will commence today and conclude tomorrow. Maple is on a bye for the weekend, while Clint Marcelle Academy’s clash with RSSR has been postponed.
