Nigel John and Amin Julien got a goal each as Moruga FC edged Penal All Stars 2-1 to take home the Southern Football Association (SFA) Executive Cup final at the Barrackpore Recreation Ground, Barrackpore on Thursday night.

With the win, Moruga walked away with $6,000 as champions while Penal which got its lone item from Andrew Samuel collected $3,000.

Today, attention will shift back to the SFA’s Petrotrin Super League “Big-Six” in which Barrackpore United FC leads with ten points from four matches, three more than Marabella Family Crisis Centre which faces cellar-placed University of T&T in a key penultimate round clash today from 7pm at the Ben Lomond Recreation Ground, Williamsville.

In the final round of matches on December 20, Barrackpore will meet Marabella while third placed Moruga FC, which also has an outside chance of being crowned champions come up against Pt Fortin Civic.

However, before Marabella Family CC can focus on the Barrackpore contest it must take all three points against UTT after their meeting on Wednesday night was called off after a power outage at the same Williamsville venue.

Moruga FC which has seven points, but will need UTT to beat Marabella, while the latter in turns defeat Barrackpore while it takes all three points in its final match with Pt Fortin Civic.

Barrackpore is already through to the Wednesday’s League Cup final after thumping Penal All Stars 7-1 on aggregate in their semifinal while second-leg of the other semifinal between University of T&T and Moruga FC which stands at 2-2 takes place on Monday. The winner of the League Cup will earn $4,000 and the runner-up, $2,000.
