E-mail Print PDF

Ricardo Bennett scored a pair of goals and Michael Waldron added one, as Joe Public defeated Club Sando 3-1 when competition in the bmobile National Super Football League continued at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella yesterday. It was Public’s sixth in seven games and the performance has extended the team’s lead at the top of the standings to eight, after second place Economy Strikers suffered their third defeat.

Waldron opened the scoring in the 58th minute for Joe Public after a goalless first half. Seven minutes later, Bennett netted the first of his double before Andy Lindon scored in the 73rd for Sando to make it 2-1. Bennett then returned to seal the deal in the 83rd minute with his second item to give the ‘Eastern Lions’ the win.

Economy Strikers, who moved into the second position last Sunday, failed to keep close to the leaders as they went down 2-1 to M&M Harvard at the Sangre Grande Recreational Ground. Christon Fraitas, who scored a double, netted his first in the 19th minute, before Kern Cooper leveled the score in the 33rd minute. Fraitas then took the wind out of the strikers team as he restored his club’s lead seconds later with the eventual game winner.
