Rangers humble Petrotrin

E-mail Print PDF

United Petrotrin’s Brazilian coach may have considered everything but an embarrassing 4-2 defeat against visiting St Ann’s Rangers in front of home fans at the Palo Seco Recreation Ground on Tuesday afternoon. Thanks to a late double by Errol Mc Farlane, Rangers’ trip to the deep southlands proved worthwhile registering their first victory of the season.

On the contrary it was United Petrotrin’s first defeat of the season despite an equalizing double by Arnold Dwarika.

Josimar Belgrave cushioned the Anthony Streete coached side 2-0 following strikes in the 30th and 57th minutes before Dwarika levelled the scores 2-2 with items in the 65th and 68th minutes.

Rangers’ captain Errol Mc Farlane had the last say and he did it within a space of two minutes netting his pair in the 80th and 81st minutes.

Rangers now with 4 points are still struggling at the bottom half, while Petrotrin dropped three spots into sixth with their 7 points—three behind leaders San Juan Jabloteh.

Jabloteh only managed one point in Match Day Five after they were held to a 1-1 draw against hosts Caledonia AIA of Morvant Laventille at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

Defender Robert Primus had Jabloteh ahead in the 25th minute but Caledonia responded with a brilliant Keyon Edwards strike in the 59th minute.

Other intriguing results surfaced out of the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium with W Connection needing a 90th minute item by Gerrard Williams to defeat Tobago United 2-1. Reginald Payne had equalized Kevon Woodley’s 6th minute item in the 61st minute before Williams stole maximum points seconds before the final whistle.

And in the second match Sylvester Teesdale scored his first goal of the season for FC South End in the 21st minute and it was a very valuable item handing the Anthony Rougier coached side their first win as the newboys of the Pro League. They defeated Ma Pau SC 1-0.

Defence Force were also in winners’ row rebounding aggressively following Saturday’s 3-0 defeat against Ma Pau SC to hammer Police FC 4-0 within the half hour mark at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

The win moved the soldiers up three spots into fourth on the standings.

Kevon Carter registered a double—netting the first and last items in the 3rd and 28th minutes—against the lawmen. While Keston Williams added the second in the 5th minute and Anton Joseph the third in the 11th minute putting the match way out of Police’s reach.

It was the third successive defeat for the lawmen following a 4-0 defeat against United Petrotrin and a 6-2 loss against Caledonia AIA.

They dropped one spot into ninth position with just four points which came from their 3-3 draw against Rangers and a 2-1 win over Tobago United.
