In its first clash with a South American team since qualifying for the 2007 FIFA Under 17 World Championship, Trinidad and Tobago’s junior “Soca Warriors” suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Peru in the first of two warm ups at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva on Thursday.
National Under 17 head coach Anton Corneal says he will welcome a more fiery approach from Peru in Saturday’s second match as promised by his opposite number.
It will be “war” versus Jamaica on Sunday at their own “office” the National Stadium in Kingston as both Trinidad and Tobago and the hosts go all out for a place in the 2007 FIFA Under 17 World Championship.
TWO years ago, Trinidad and Tobago had only one World Football Championship qualification under their belts. Now that number has tripled, with the Under-17 national team making the journey to Korea for the World Under-17 Championship in August, in the wake of the senior team's debut at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Trinidad and Tobago's kept their dreams of qualifying for Korea 2007 with a nail biting 2-1 victory over Canada in their third CONCACAF Final round encounter at the National Stadium, Kingston on Friday evening.
Caribbean Airlines will take newest squad of football sensations back to Trinidad and Tobago on Monday and may well be advised to set up route to Korea following this country’s qualification for the 2007 FIFA Under 17 World Championship.
Trinidad and Tobago’s National Under 17 team didn’t leave the National Stadium in Kingston with the desired result on Saturday evening but coach Anton Corneal and his boys would have taken with them some positives that could well inspire their outcome in the current qualifying quest for the Korea 2007 FIFA Under 17 World Championship.

National Under 17 team head coach Anton Corneal wasn’t talking much about his team’s 3-0 shut out of National Super League club Harvard FC on Monday evening as he had the chance to see the young “Soca Warriors” on display for the final time on home turf before their departure for Jamaica on Wednesday to contest the final round of the CONCACAF qualifiers towards the 2007 FIFA Under 17 World Championship.
