Under-17 captain Brendon Creed’s three goals in three matches to lead this country to the next round of CONCACAF Under-17 World Cup qualifying has been his biggest accomplishment to date as a footballer.
And the SKHY FC player has every intention of putting his best foot forward in the next round where T&T will join Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti in the 12-team CONCACAF championship April 6 to 19 in Panama. US, Canada, Panama are already through and will be joined by other Central American opponents.
“For me it was a huge honour to be given the responsibility of leading the team,” Creed said. “As a player, it was exciting but also a bit of a challenge not knowing exactly what to expect because it was the first international tournament for a lot of us.
But we were composed and once we started the first game against BVI, we knew we were faster and better than them.
We settled down and started playing and the momentum continued for the rest of the tournament. “We went into every game knowing that we had to follow our plan that the coaching staff laid down and we were disciplined enough to finish the job.
“The real competition is in April in Panama and we will be focusing on that in the months coming up. I hope the players continue to stay fit and injury-free so we can have the best possible team when we come up against the rest of CONCACAF next year.”
