U-17s in Costa Rica for training camp. The National Men’s Under 17 team is currently in Costa Rica for a four-match training camp as they continue their preparations for the CONCACAF Final Round of Qualification in Panama City in April for the 2013 FIFA Under 17 World Cup.

TTFF Technical Director Anton Corneal was the man responsible for arranging the training camp and line up for games which will see T&T playing  the Costa Rica National Under 17 team today T&T began the camp with a 0-0 draw against Costa Rican under 20 club champions Alajuela on Friday after arriving there on Wednesday.

They are also carded to face club side Uruguay and will close off the camp against Saprissa’s Under 20 team on Monday.

The Ministry of Sport also made a significant contribution to ensure the Team was able to partake in the training camp.

“It’s a very useful opportunity that came knocking through our relationship with the Costa Ricans and this is something that has been in progress for some time now as it relates to maintaining good relationships with some of our neighboring countries in the region and other organizers of matches and training camps” Corneal told TTFF Media.

“I felt it was the ideal opportunity for the team to get some valuable match practice and training time ahead of the final round of qualification for the Under 17 World Cup in Panama in April,” added Corneal who guided this country to the 2007 FIFA Under 17 World Cup in South Korea.

T&T head coach Shawn Cooper has ex-Strike Squad player Leonson Lewis and Terrance Marcelle as his assistants with Ross Russell as the goalkeeper coach and Christopher Gouveia is  the team manager.

“The team is at a certain part of the preparations and we felt it was necessary to get these matches with the tournament just over a month away. Of course we will be aiming to get good results but it’s more about organizing our shape and structure of play as it relates to how we will approach the qualifying games,” head coach Cooper stated.

The team is captained by midfielder Brandon Creed and includes Under 20 defender Shannon Gomez, W Connection midfielder Matthew Woo Ling, talented forward Brent Sam and US-based player Mani Walcott.
