National Under-20 football captain Leston Paul and his teammates got their first feel of Egypt yesterday as they arrived in Alexandria as one of the featured teams for the gala kick off and opening ceremony for the 2009 FIFA Under-20 World Championship starting Thursday at the Egyptian Army Stadium.
U-20s touch down in Egypt today
T&T Under-20 footballers will be among the first set of teams to arrive in Cairo, Egypt for the Fifa Under-20 World Cup which begins on Thursday, when they touch down at approximately 10:45 pm tonight (3 pm T&T time) after a short flight from Lanarca, Cyprus.
Manning, Richards blank U-20 invite
Prior to leaving for the Fifa Under-20 World Cup on Sunday, Fifa vice-president Jack Warner says he was still awaiting word from President George Maxwell Richards and Prime Minister Patrick Manning on whether they will be attending the tournament, which begins on Thursday in Egypt.

Trinidad and Tobago’s National Under 20 footballers pulled a goal back with nine minutes remaining but could not force the equalizing goal which would have given them a more than deserving draw with Australia in Thursday’s warm up encounter at the Ayia Napa Stadium in Cyprus.
Reaching another level of football
They may not be filled with the high profile names of Dwight Yorke, Russell Latapy, Carlos Edwards and Kenwyne Jones, but my bet is that many of the members of the national Under-20 squad who are awaiting the start of the Fifa World Cup in Egypt, will one day occupy the minds and hearts of the people of T&T in the near future.
TTFF Statement Re Under 20 trio
The Management staff of the Trinidad and Tobago National Under 20 team, on behalf of the TTFF, wishes to address the statements made by ex-National Team captain and former national team assistant coach Clayton Morris in Wednesday’s Guardian in reference to the team’s handling of players Trent Lougheed, Jevon Morris and Nicholas Walker. The trio did not make the final cut of 22 players to travel to Cyprus and Egypt for the FIFA Under 20 World Championship after being in the squad for previous training camps in England and Turkey.
