Boys Town reminded everyone of their prowess on Tuesday night with a 9-1 drubbing of North Oropouche on their home ground as the race to the “Big 8” heats up in the Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond Football League.

Sitting in 10th place in the standings after a wildly inconsistent season, Boys Town looked to be in trouble when they took to the field with a man short against North Oropouche.

It was the second time the former champions have started a game without their full complement this season.

But reinforcements soon arrived and Boys Town quickly took control of proceedings. Midfielder Isaiah Smith gave North Oropouche a warning with a mazy run past four defenders before blasting his right-footed shot well wide of the target. He would atone for his miss soon after with a first-time effort from on top the box following a pass from the right flank to make it 1-0.

Zavion Navarro made it 2-0, breaking the offside trap and placing his shot past the onrushing goalie. It stood 2-0 at the half but North Oropouche’s Cody Henderson reduced the deficit immediately after the break to give his team a glimmer of hope.

Boys Town were having none of it, however, and Aion Charles restored the two-goal cushion prior to Smith completing his hat-trick with two quick goals that opened the floodgate. Andell Jones, Kellon Boatswain, Charles and Rondell Vincent took advantage of a dejected North Oropouche squad to finish the massacre. The result tied the highest scoring performance of any team this season and put Boys Town back in contention for a spot in the “Big 8”.
