It was a case of deja vu for Take That and Cool It on Saturday who were once again eliminated in the Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond Big 8 Football Tournament at the first hurdle.

After a stellar season which saw them clinch the league title and its accompanying $2,000 and trophy, Take That and Cool It were eager to add the Big 8 title to their cabinet and take home the coveted $40,000 first prize.

Fishing Pond Revival had other ideas though and stunned Take That and Cool It 5-4 on penalties after an enthralling 3-3 draw.

Fishing Pond Revival made an energetic start to the match, showing little respect for the number one seed and were ahead 2-0 at the break with goals from Anderson Byer and Nkosi Charles. The “Cool It” defence was in complete disarray but the 2009 champions showed their mettle to claw themselves back into the game through a double from Dillon Thomas and a rocket strike from midfielder Sean Reyes.

Fishing Pond’s Nause Gomes also scored as regulation time ended 3-3.

With kicks from the penalty spot to decided the winner, Fishing Pond Revival were perfect while Kristian Maloney was Take That and Cool It’s only blemish, scoffing his kick which trickled agonisingly wide of the post.

In the other quarterfinal, 2014 winners Dream Team made light work of Manzanilla United to secure a berth in next week’s semi-finals. Just over two weeks after thrashing them 6-2 in league play, Dream Team continued their domination over their rivals this time with a 6-1 performance.

Goals from Patrick Parris, Stephan Kerr, John Stewart and Kern Garcia virtually decided the game in the first half. Parris would complete his hat-trick after the break while Darkile Ferreira netted a penalty conceded from a handball infringement to give Manzan something to be proud about.

In yesterday’s other quarter-finals, Boys Town came up against G Madrid while champions Blu Magic faced Gremio in a repeat of the 2014 final.
