WOODLAND ‘B’ are champions of their community’s 8-a-side Football League, having beaten internal club rivals Woodland A via kicks from the penalty spot in the tournament final at the village recreation ground on the weekend.
Woodland ‘A’ won $2,500 and their player, Travis Francis took the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and Most Goals (five) awards. Woodland ‘B’s’ Brian Jagdeo earned the Best Goalkeeper award.
In the third-place play-off which got underway prior to the championship match, Kyle Sargeant’s lone goal proved the crucial difference as La Romaine edged Avocat United 1-0 into fourth. For their bronze medal performance, La Romaine pocketed $1,000.
The Woodland 8-a-side Tournament is a minor league competition that allows players to be promoted to the Super League. It also promotes persons/players who are not taking part in the Southern Football Association League and Super League.
