Gremio FC are in the final of the Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond Big 8 Football Tournament for the second straight year after beating Fishing Pond Revival 2-1 on Sunday in an exciting semi-final.

Last year’s losing finalists took care of business and now have a shot at the $40,000 first prize they missed out on in 2014. The result was the second victory for Gremio over Fishing Pond Revival this season following their 2-1 win earlier in the league stage.

They will now face G Madrid at 3pm on Saturday for the crown while Fishing Pond Revival and Dream Team meet at 1pm in the third/fourth play-off with $5,000 and $4,000 up for grabs.

Unlike their previous meeting, it was Gremio who took the lead first on Sunday with lanky forward Kendall Samuel again making his presence known.

Samuel, who netted a brace against Fishing Pond Revival, against haunted them with a fierce shot that the goalie could not stop to make it 1-0. Donne Estrick scored the vital; equaliser before the half though with a neat finish after he got the ball with time and pace inside the area. But Gremio were not to be denied, Sherman Degazon showing his nifty footwork to elude three defenders inside the area and scoring the winner with 10 minutes of regulation time remaining.

The final is expected to be a cracker with both teams displaying the style and swagger necessary to be crowned champions.

Gremio, on a mission to rectify their poor showing in last year’s final, are hungry for success while G Madrid have looked the most impressive in the knockout stage and are ready to win the Fishing Pond title for the very first time.
