Boys Town made a strong start to the Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond Football League on Saturday, spanking Alescon FC 6-2 at the Fishing Pond Recreation Ground.

Last year’s losing finalist would have been hoping to get their campaign started with a win after they stumbled out the gates last year and lost six straight games before roaring back to win their remaining fixtures and scrape into the knockout round.

Their was no lethargy from Boys Town this time, coming out the gates firing and taking a 5-1 lead by half-time. A double from Theo Raymond, and one each from Marcus Chandoo, Kelon Boatswain and Rion Moore quickly settled whatever nerves Boys Town might have had. Raymond was on target again in the second half for the first hat-trick of the season as Boys Town ran out comfortable winners. Colin Henry and Ryan Henry were the goal-getters for Alescon FC.

Defending champions, Take That and Cool It, got their first victory of the season, brushing aside North Oropouche 6-1 at the North Oropouche Ground.

“Cool It”, after drawing the opening game of the season, took out their frustration on North Oropouche in a scintillating first period which saw them put the ball into the net four times. Shaquille Joseph had a treble while Brendon Figuero added one to make it 4-0 at the break. “Cool It” had two more from Mark Pierre and Leon Durity while Neil Simpson got a consolation for North Oropouche.

Dream Team also picked up three points, getting past Alliance 4-1 with all the goals coming in the second half. Kern Diaz put Dream Team ahead but misfortune befell the former winners when central defender Keryl Garcia scored an own goal trying to clear the ball for a corner. But almost immediately, Tavous Boswell lashed in a quick-fire double while substitute Akeem “Paw” Dandrage, on a counter-attack, took his time and fired low past the goalie. In other results,El Carmen 45 beat Two Touch 1-0, Dragon beat Manzan FC 2-1, SP Boys beat Express 5-3.
