MALONEY Youths ruled the roost when the curtain came down officially on the 2009 season of the Arima Football League’s youth competitions sponsored for the third straight year by GDF Suez.

Mayor Alderman Adrian Cabralis, along with Cecil Walker, former Director of Sport, Joseph Saunders, founding member of Fulham Sports Club, parents and grand-parents were among the crowd on hand to witness both finals contested at the Arima Velodrome last Sunday.

Before the prize distribution Maloney edged Semi Pro by a lone goal in the 13 and Under final which got the morning’s proceedings underway but Renaldo Francis of Semi Pro was adjudged to be “Man-of-the- Match”.

In the 16 and Under final which followed Maloney overwhelmed Creek 5-0 after a 2-0 half-time lead. Maloney’s midfielder, Enrique Lezama, copped the “Man-of-the-Match” award in that fixture.

Maloney’s Ryan Ramasray won the Golden Boot with 11 goals in that division while in the 13 and Under division honours were shared between Francis and Brandon Galero of Fulham who each registered five goals. Kishan Arjune of GDF Suez commended all participants as well as their coaches and parents and thanked the League’s administrators for their tremendous effort in ensuring that the two-month competition was successfully completed in time. He pledged the continued support of GDF Suez for youth football in Arima. He reminded the winners that they had two more matches to play against their respective counterparts at Point Fortin today and at Arima on the following Sunday (Sept 20).

Mayor Cabralis joined in praising and thanking the AFL administrators, the teams, match officials and the parents, grand parents and other relatives who had come out often in support. 13 Years and Under Division — 1 Maloney Youths; 2 Semi Pro; 3 Fulham Sports Club; 4 Valencia 16 Years and Under Division — 1 Maloney Youths; 2 Creek; 3 Presto All Stars; 4 Semi Pro
