MARK LOOK LOY, nephew of former Trinidad & Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) technical adviser Keith Look Loy got the opening goal as FC Santa Rosa got a winning start to their bid to qualify for the 2012 season of the bmobile National Super League semi-professional competition.



Six zonal football champions are contesting the National Super League qualifying competition. The top three teams will be promoted to the Super League. One team will be demoted from the Super League.

FC Santa Rosa travelled down South and won 3-1 over Siparia Spurs. North champions Petit Valley United also began with a victory. They hosted Central Champions Harlem Strikers and won 5-1 on Tuesday evening at the Diego Martin Secondary School.

In another match, Biche United got a point from their visit to the sister isle by holding Tobago champions St Clair Coaching School 0-0 at the Dwight Yorke Stadium.

Santa Rosa led their match 1-0 at the end of the first half through Lookloy’s 27th minute goal, before Michael Hospedales doubled their advantage in the 60th minute. Nine minutes later, Jessie Edwards got the home team closer at 2-1, but Jared Bennett ensured their would be no Siparia comeback when he got a third Santa Rosa goal in the 80th minute.

The most emphatic winners on opening day were Northern Football Association champions Petit Valley who took a four-goal first half lead before running away with their match against Central Football Association (CFA) champions Harlem Strikers.

Anthony Joseph struck twice (24th & 36th), Aaron Stewart (13th) and Curtis Smith (44th) got the other goals to give Petit Valley full command at the end of the first half. Kareem Harris then netted for Harlem in the 63rd, taking the score to 4-1, before Eric Charles got a fifth goal for the home team in the 78th minute.
