With WASA FC stamping its position as clear favourite to take the blink/bmobile National Super League (NSL) title for the second time in the club’s history, the three-team relegation zone heated up on Sunday, with Real Maracas going three points clear from the drop, following a shaky 2-1 win over Defence Force.

Dillon Bartholomew scored with three minutes remaining in the match to secure all three points as Maracas went into seventh position tied with 1976 FC Phoenix and the Teteron Boys, but with a greater goal difference.

Despite a massive 4-0 win over Biche United, Club Sando remained in 11th position out of 12 teams, with four points the difference between itself and survival for another season.
Biche’s loss, meanwhile, almost certainly assured it demotion back to the Eastern Counties Football Association.

In other results, Siparia Spurs continued its excellent run in its debut season in the Super League as it climbed into fourth spot with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Eagles United, which sits on the top spot in the drop zone.

Jesse Edwards, Chris Collins and Len Mejias were all on target as last year’s Southern Football Association champions secured its eighth victory of the campaign.

The defending champion, bmobile Joe Public meanwhile, secured as many draws, eight, as it was held to a disappointing  1-1 draw at home knockout champion Stokely Vale.

But, in the highlight match on the weekend, WASA FC took a breath of fresh air as it dropped Westside Superstarz 2-0 to go six points clear at the top of the standings.

WASA will host Defence Force at WASA Ground on Sunday, and a victory will assure the Waterboys its second ever NSL title, which it previously won in 2007.
