Guaya United and Real Maracas, two of the last three remaining unbeaten teams will meet at the Maracas Recreation Ground, St Joseph, when a full round of match day five fixtures in the blink/bmobile National Super League kicks off today. The day’s feature encounter will begin at 4 pm, as with the five other matches.

Trailing the joint leaders by six points, Real Maracas, which has played the least number of matches this season, will be seeking to make up ground by extending its unbeaten run to three matches.

Real Maracas most recently played to a 2-2 draw with Defence Force on Sunday, after letting a 2-0 half time lead slip away. On the contrary, Guaya, the newly-promoted Eastern Counties champion is fresh off a famous 4-2 win over the much more recognised Westside Superstarz, which had previously led the standings with three consecutive victories.

Playing at home in front of a large Guayaguayare support base on Sunday, Guaya impressed officials of the T&T Football Association with a strong attacking performance, which saw Russell Alfred and Carlon Hughes with a goal each and Ryan Stewart a double. The result put Guaya on top of the standing, joint with Club Sando which has similarly won three and tied one match since the season’s start.

Club Sando will remain in South today when it travels to the Palo Seco Velodrome to meet fifth-placed Siparia Spurs. Another key fixture for both teams is the Westside’s trip to WASA FC’s namesake ground, in St Joseph. The Nigel Pierre-coached Superstarz will be seeking to return to winning ways when it faces the defending champion with is on a miserable run of three draws and one loss from its opening four matches.

The previous season’s treble winner Joe Public, which has won none of its opening three fixtures will meet fourth-placed Stokely Vale at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.
