MALABAR FC overtook Club Sando for the top spot in the Blink/Bmobile National Super League after contrasting results in Sunday’s Match Day 24 fixtures.

Sando, who led entering Sunday’s games, were held to a 1-1 draw by Real Maracas while Malabar whipped third-placed Guaya United 2-0.

Malabar and Sando both have 45 points, but Malabar are ahead courtesy of a superior goal difference of plus-42, compared to Sando’s plus-33.

Cordell Samuel found the back of the net twice, in the 15th and 52nd minutes, as Malabar blanked their guests at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima.

And, at the Maracas Recreation Ground in St Joseph, Teba McKnight’s ninth minute opener for Sando was cancelled out by Dillon Bartholomew’s equaliser in the 20th.

There were two contests on the sister isle, with the away teams emerging victorious.

Siparia Spurs moved from 11th to ninth place after trouncing fourth-placed 1976 FC Phoenix 4-0 at Canaan, Bon Accord.

Shavon Frederick opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Chris Collins doubled the lead four minutes later. Kevon Bascombe netted Siparia’s third item in the 39th while Frederick ut the game beyond Phoenix’s reach with his second strike, six minutes into the second half.

And, in the all-Tobago clash, fifth-placed Stokely Vale got goals from Krishawn Joseph in the 32nd and Dominic McDougal in the 81st as they cruised past Bethel United 2-0 at the Mt Gomery Recreation Ground.

In the other match on Sunday, Westside Superstarz FC and Joe Public, a pair of mid-table squads, battled to a 1-1 draw at the Dibe Recreation Ground, St James.

Donavon Derrick put Joe Public in front in the 38th but Matthew Waldron evened up the scores in the 59th.

There will be action on Match Day 25 this Friday and Sunday.

Malabar take Super League lead

Cordell Samuel scored twice to lead Malabar FC to an easy 2-0 win over Guaya United at Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar on Sunday to take the lead in the Blink/Bmobile National Super League.

Samuel opened the scoring in the 15th minute before doubling the lead in the 52nd as Malabar overtook Club Sando at the top of the standings.

Both Malabar and Club Sando have 45 points each but Malabar have a superior goal difference of 45 to Sando’s 33.

Sando lost the top spot following their 1-1 draw with Real Maracas FC at in Maracas St Joseph on Sunday. However, they have the advantage of having a game in hand.

Teba Mc Knight put Sando ahead in the ninth minute before Dillon Bartholomew equalised in the 20th.

Down near the bottom, Siparia Spurs got the weekend’s biggest win when they beat Tobago team 1976 Phoenix 4-0 through a double by Shavon Frederick and further goals by Chris Collins and Kevon Bascombe.
