Lejandro Williams scored a pair of goals as 1976 Angostura Phoenix edged M&M Harvard 3–2 to relegate the St James-based club from the bmobile National Super League on Sunday. Prior to kickoff at the Dibe Ground, Long Circular, Harvard needed a win over Phoenix to stay ahead of fellow Northern Football Association club, St Francois Nationals and keep alive its survival dreams. It seemed to be going according to script early on  for Harvard, when Eric Charles fired in the opening goal after seven minutes. But Williams hit back with a double in the 12th and 20th minutes for Phoenix to lead 2–1 at the interval. Dominique Kerr extended Phoenix’s lead to 3–1 in the 56th minute before Glen Walker netted in the 78th minute to pull Harvard with a goal at 3–2. That was as close as Harvard got though, as it joined fellow NFA club and neighbour Queen’s Park, and Eastern Football Association’s Valtrin FC as the three teams relegated ending a five-year run in the competition.

Phoenix also defeated Queen’s Park last week to confine the latter back to “Savannah Football”. St Francois, meanwhile, won by default from Valtrin to cement it stay in the competition. The Belmont-based club also has a match against last season’s champions bmobile Joe Public before the Disciplinary Committee. At the top of the table, league and knockout winners T&TEC continued its unbeaten run after a 25th minute own-goal ensured a 1–0 win away to WASA at St Joseph. T&TEC has 49 points one match which is before the Disciplinary Committee against Defence Force to complete its campaign.  Phoenix is second with 36 points, but WASA, with 35 points, also has a match before the Disciplinary Committee against Stokely Vale and can finish second.

The trio of last year’s winner, bmobile Joe Public (28 points), Stokely Vale (27) and Defence Force (26) complete the top six clubs which qualify to compete in the Toyota Classic competition, along with the Digicel Pro League clubs with the first round set to begin on February 4. Next season’s Super League will comprise ten clubs with Harvard, QPCC and Valtrin relegated  to their association league and the top two teams in the T&T Football Federation Champion of Champions competition, which takes place in January, being promoted.
