M&M Harvard Under-14 player Josh Toussaint says the feelings he experienced as a toddler in 2006 when this country appeared at the World Cup Finals in Germany continues to inspire him and he is looking forward to playing in a World Cup final.

Toussaint was awarded the Most Promising Player award in the Under-14 Division of the 2010 TTFF National Youth League at its recent awards ceremony. And while he may not have been at an age to fully appreciate the likes of Dwight Yorke and Russell Latapy while in their prime, Toussaint still looks up to them. And as the five-year anniversary of T&T 2006 World Cup appearance approaches, such memories remain an inspiration for aspiring football stars like Toussaint who helped Harvard capture the 2010 League title. “Well I was still very young in 2006 but I remember the atmosphere. I saw what was happening on TV in Germany and I remember how the country was on a high. It was amazing. I look up to players like Russell Latapy and Dwight Yorke and internationally I like Lionel Messi, Didier Drogba and Cristiano Ronaldo,” said Toussaint. “I have been told stories of our best footballers and from what I can remember in 2006, I hope I can go on to someday play in a World Cup and help the country relive moments like that.” As for his ambitions for the 2011 season, Toussaint added: “We are coming out to defend our title. It was a good feeling to win it last year and for me to win this award is an inspiration. My coaches and parents and my friends have kept pushing me and I want to achieve bigger things,” added the Diego Martin North Secondary student. Toussaint is definitely one for local fans to keep their eyes on.
