A hat-trick from striker Keron Brooks helped Club Sando maintain its joint leadership position atop of the Group B table of the National Youth League after defeating Cap Off Youths on Sunday.

In the NYL under-17 match, played at the Waterloo Secondary School ground, Club Sando recorded a comfortable 3-1 victory. The results pushed Club Sando to nine points, the same as West Side Super Starz FC which also defeated Joe Public with a similar score-line.

Cap Off Youths started off in tremendous fashion when Kevin Peters found the back of the net within four minutes of the start. The match, however, went downhill from there for the Youths as Keron Brooks scored the equaliser just three minutes later.

Brooks then netted a two goal brace in the 19th and 23rd minutes to secure a hat-trick and the three points for Club Sando.

Meanwhile, West Side Super Starz which were up against Joe Public Football Club at the same time at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, remained in top position with a similar 3-1 winning result.

Avery Thomas’ 15 minute effort along with goals from Andrew Charles and Keston Frederick in the 53rd and 64th minutes, took the side to a 3-0 lead before Israel Honore rescued some pride for Joe Public with his 70th minute consolation effort. The two sides have a game in hand.

Newcomers to the NYL, Tunapuna Titans were not in action on the day and are yet to earn a point. Group A leaders Santa Rosa were gifted a three goal win and three points by default when Mayaro Spurs failed to appear at the match scheduled to take place at YTC in Arouca.

M&M Harvard added to QPCC’s woes with a 4-1 dumping of the Parkites. Tafari Williams netted another double with one goal in each half while Allan Alvarez and Joshua Ramdoo netted single goals each in the 50th and 88th minute. Christian Landreth-Smith netted the only QPCC goal in the 23rd minute.

Harvard now lie on seven points in second place, just three back from Santa Rosa which are on 10. Mayaro Spurs and Eagles United (not in action on the day) are both a point back sharing third on six points with a negative one goal difference. QPCC are last, having lost every game.
