Jim was born Aldrick Luther Lowe on April 27, 1935 in the then Borough of San Fernando. At five, his older brother and hero, Isaac Shabrall Prout, introduced him to yard football in a narrow dirt pitch between a hibiscus fence and their wooden house at No. 60 Bertrand Street. Their soccer balls were oranges, limes, grapefruits and old lawn tennis balls.

His first organized soccer match was for Coffee Street E.C. School on Skinner’s Park second ground. On subsequent trips as a spectator at Skinner’s Park, Uncle Jim witnessed Jaggernauth Shield Matches, as well as clashes of the likes of St. Benedict’s versus Naparima, tangles for religious supremacy between A.Y.M. and C.Y.O. He saw players such as Sonny Boy Roberts, Claud Maurice, Fedo Lloyd, Dricks Baptiste, Ian Seales, Joey Gonzales, George Baker, Randolph Merritt and Felix Assoon.

In about 1948, when Jim was a teenager, the family moved to Techier Village. Techier Park became his second home and soccer academy. The instructors were former United British Oilfields of Trinidad players, Roy Hackett, Leo Brewster, Puna Halls, Watty Douglas, Eddie Procope, Leon Steele, Doyle Griffith, Delbert Charleau, Calton Roberts, Jack Waterman and Ken Corbie. Jim and his friends imitated the dribble style and body swerves of these players.

Young Jim, still a schoolboy, joined Hawkes Football Club which was founded in 1950 by Big B. Burnett and Bobby Mills. Later he was selected to join the Southern Amateur Football League (SAFL) second division team. In 1954 John Miller arrived from Scotland to become coach of Trinidad Petroleum Development (TPD) later BP Trinidad. He charged Cecil Drayton with the duty to recruit the young roving centre half to accept a job with TPD. With the support of Mr. Calvert Eddie Edwards, the Secretary of his former sports club Middlesex, Jim reluctantly accepted the job with TPD and moved to Palo Seco.

SAFL selectors took note of his scoring ability and energy from the left half (midfield) position and selected him to play at inside left where he continued to score with equal skill. He played in all the matches against SAFA, POSFL, NAFL and Arima FL. In 1956, Jim along with Sonny Baptiste and Parks Crawford were on the SAFL team that won the 1956 Interleague Shield. By 1958, Jim established himself as one of the most versatile back/half backs in Trinidad and Tobago. He was a member of the 1958 National Team that won the Caribbean Football Championship and remained a team member for seven years. Jim also played field hockey and cricket. Playing for TPD, Jim and his teammates won two national field hockey championships, defeating Police and Casuals in Port-of-Spain.

Jim immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1969 and joined the B.C. Corrections Services. For 36 years he was involved in the Caribbean All Stars Soccer Club which won the North Shore Coaches Soccer League title in the mid 1970s. He was a cofounder of the now defunct West Indian Soccer Tournament between Edmonton and Vancouver that started in 1977. In 1992, the All Stars toured Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, St. Vincent and Barbados.

In 1989, thirty years after his last track and field competition, Jim participated in the Grand Masters Category of the World Police and Fire Games in Richmond, B.C. He continued to compete in these games for 10 years.

Jim passed away on Monday May 7, 2007 in Vancouver, B.C. He is survived by his companion of 34 years, Ms. Indra Roodal; sister Mrs. Cynthia Prout-Green; son Aldrick Lowe Junior; grandsons Jimmy and Anton Lowe; granddaughter Alicia Lowe; ten nieces and two nephews. Special friends include Joesph Alexis, George Bennett and Carlton Franco. He was predeceased in 2003 by his brother Isaac Shabrall Prout.
