National Primary Schools football champions Bon Accord Government Primary and rivals Whim Anglican will battle for the Godrick Alfred Primary Schools Knock Out Cup after both teams scored commanding wins in their semifinal games at the Shaw Park Recreational Grounds on Friday.

Bon Accord whipped Signal Hill Government 7-1 while Whim dismissed Bethesda Government 9-1. Both teams will play in a rematch of last year’s finals where Bon Accord edged Whim 1-0.

Playing in the first game, Bon Accord showed their class with superior skill and height and took the lead in the sixth minute, when Nigel Burnett intercepted a goal kick out from Signal Hill’s defense and slotted in the ball past the diving keeper Renaldo Miller.

Signal Hill’s captain Darion Joefield, was busy in the defence, but could not keep out the Bon Accord strikers. On the end Tyreek Bruce was up front for Signal Hill running down the right wing but his crosses were quickly cleared by Bon Accord defenders. Four minutes later, Daniel Marcelle found the back of the net for the winners when he scored from a corner.

Hamilton Bristol made it 3-0 when he was on mark from a cross from Burnett with Shaquille Carrington getting the team’s fourth scoring from yet another cross much to the delight of the chanting and cheering Bon Accord supporters. The first half ended 4-0.

Kyle Jack continued the scoring in the second half as he dribbled past several defenders before scoring. Burnett got his double in the 53rd minute as he pounced on a rebound. Bristol and Hamilton mounted several of Bon Accord’s attacks along with Burnett who made his moves from the right flank.

Signal Hill managed to get on the score sheet when Jamal Samuel netted in the 49th minute. Bazil Lovell completed the onslaught for Bon Accord getting the final item five minutes before the final whistle.

Meanwhile, Whim was expected to get a tougher test against Bethesda and the game started with both sides settling early with some slick passes and playing in formation. However, Whim imposed their authority with Tareek Richards and Ajahne Toney hitting hat tricks. Toney opened the scoring from as early as the second minute and got his other goals in 23rd and 30th minutes. 

Richards opened his tally in the third minute and got his second in the 55th minute and his third at the end of full time. Lanky captain Gereeb Louis controlled the mid-field provided several accurate crosses, while pint size Brathwaite frustrated Bethesda’s defence with several slicing runs from the right hand side. T’Shawn Clarke scored Bethesda’s consolation owl in the 52nd minute.

The final is set for Thursday at the same venue during the opening of Tobago zone of the Atlantic Primary Schools Football League. Whim will be looking to end Bon Accord’s unbeaten run of titles in Tobago after losing last year.

This year’s league competition will see the re-introduction of an under 12 competition which will feature teams of seven players playing 15 minutes halves. The division is expected to use the flying substitution format.
