QUARTER-FINAL matches in both the Boys and Girls Divisions of the 2008 Atlantic LNG National Primary Schools Football League will kick off at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva today, starting at 10 am.

Defending champions Carenage Boys Government will face Montgomery Government of Tobago as they seek to advance to the “semis” in the Boys Division. Teacher/coach Harold Telesford said his team had put in extra hours of practice in an attempt to retain their title.

Tobago will be hoping for good results in the division as their other quarter-finalists, Whim AC, who were runners-up last year, will square up against San Fernando Boys RC.

Egypt Village Government will carry the hopes of southerners in their match against La Horquetta Government North.

The fourth quarter-final in the Boys Division between six-time champions Arima Boys RC and Guayaguayare RC will be played at the Arima Velodrome since Arima are engaged in another competition that day.

In the Girls Division, defending champions Patna River Estate Government will meet Tobago’s Mason Hall Government in what is expected to be an even contest.

In other matches, early favourites Carapichaima RC will play Lower Cumuto Government, while Palo Seco Government will take on St Joseph’s Girls RC. Egypt Village Government are on a bye.

Vincent Graham, president of the National Primary Schools Football League, said he was pleased with the standard of play so far in this year’s competition with several players displaying talent for the future.

“As the competition progresses we are witnessing a good brand of football as the various coaches seek to fine-tune their players. This augurs well for development of the sport at the primary school level.

“The league is grateful to the Ministry of Education for its full support and Atlantic LNG for partnering with us to improve the game at this early stage,” Graham added.
