Presentation College surged to the top of the Premier Division of the Secondary Schools Football League yesterday when they thrashed Speyside High 3-0 in the sister-isle of Tobago, courtesy a double strike by Jayir Sheppard.

The southerners who went into yesterday’s encounter in second position on the standing on goal difference, got their third goal from Darnelle Hospedales which propelled them to a comfortable two-point lead on the table, after Shiva Boys Hindu College were clobbered away to Michael Grayson’s Trinity College East 3-1 at Henry Street Recreation Ground and Naparima College, which were among the three teams on 16 points yesterday, were held to a high-scoring 3-3 tie by St Benedict’s College at their Lewis Street home ground.

Naps who have now sunk to third with 17 points, stormed back to take the lead 2-1 after Jaycee Paras fired St Benedict’s into the lead in the 6th minute. Ronaldo Mc Intosh found the equalizer in the 17th minute before Jeron Francois’ 27th minute goal put them in front for the first time in the match. But the home team was unlucky to allow their opponents back into the game when Rondell Payne got the ball into his own net soon after the resumption for a 2-2 scoreline.

Later Payne thought he had made amends for his earlier blunder by giving Naps the lead a second time in the 38th minute. But Benedict’s did not give up and found the equalizer with Reuel Tyson’s 64th minute item for a share of the points.

At Arouca, Shiva Boys got the opening goal in the 31st minute when Judah Garcia found the nets for an early lead. But the home team stormed back with three unanswered goals from Trinity College East’s Kurdell Sweeen 79th, Stephon Hoyte 90th and Kishorn Hackshaw 93rd that pushed them to seventh with 13 points. The Penal team has now dropped to fourth on 16 points.

Meanwhile Che Benny guided St Anthony’s College to second on the table with a hat-trick in a more-than-convincing 6-2 triumph over Trinity College Moka in Maraval. Apart from Benny’s heroics, the Tigers also got goals from Jaydon Powell, Tyrese Bailey and Haile Beckles in the win.
