Defending South Zone champions, Naparima College made a winning start to their campaign in the 2008 BG TT Secondary Schools Football League when they whipped arch-rivals, Presentation College 3-0 yesterday at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella.
‘Naps’ took the lead in the 17th minute when Corey Cyrus scored from close-up range. The nippy Joshua Bachan sent the champions further into the lead in the 27th minute with a well taken shot, while Keston Small scored in the 42nd minute to gave their team a handsome 3-0 lead at half-time.
On the resumption, ‘Pres’ lifted their game but could not penetrate some stout and clever defending by ‘Naps’. There were no further goals in the contest leaving ‘Naps’ to come away with maximum points.
In the opening match, Vessigny High School with a 71st minute strike from Marcus Joseph was just enough to defeat former champions, Princes Town Senior Comprehensive.
