Shiva Boys’ eased past newly promoted Moruga Secondary 4-0 in its quarterfinal match of the Coca-Cola Intercol South Zone at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, yesterday.
Brandon Francis scored in the 27th minute to give his team a 1-0 lead, which remained until the half. A penalty from Kevin Peters and goals from Kwasi Weston and Levi Garcia in the second half rounded up the simple victory for the South Zone league champions.
Keon La Rode was given his marching orders for Moruga Secondary, when he received a red card following a second bookable offence in the final minute of play.
The win for Shiva put them into the last four of the zonal Intercol stage against the winner of the match between Pleasantville and Princes Town West which was still in action up to press time, last evening.
The semifinal will take place on Monday in the second match of a double-header at the same venue. The first fixture will see Presentation College San Fernando take on Naparima College from 3 pm.
On Wednesday, St Augustine secured a place in the East Zone semifinal following a 2-0 win over Toco in the second match of a double header, played at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima. Jamal Creighton won the match with a goal in either half of the encounter.
The win put the “Green Machine” into the last four against Arima North, which crushed Barataria 9-0 in the previous match.
In the Central Zone, Gasparillo cruised past Waterloo 3-0 at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva. The match followed a Presentation College Chaguanas come-from-behind penalty kick win over Tabaquite.
Presentation’s win put them up against league winner Carapichaima which advanced on a bye. Gasparillo will face Couva West, which also defeated Senior Division winners Chaguanas North by four unanswered goals on Wednesday. The two semifinals will be played on Tuesday at the same venue.
