Trincity Nationals’ prolific national forward Shanelle Warrick 29-goal tally in the past season earned her the “Player of the Year” award as well as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) honour for the Premier Division at the T&T Women’s League Football (WoLF) awards ceremony, held at the VIP Lounge, Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, yesterday morning.

Despite finishing runner-up, Trincity National kept pace in search for the Premier Division title, thanks to the efforts of Warrick who scored in every match last season.

She was not available to receive her trophies, medals and cash prizes but was represented by her teary-eyed mother Sharon. St Augustine SC’s Naomie Guerra, who was also instrumental in the team’s runner-up position in the Big-Eight competition and promotion to the Premier Division was awarded the MVP for the First Division.

She was also included in the team of the year which included several more Real Dimension players, many of whom put on stellar performances to see the oldest and most celebrated club in the league take home $19,500 in cash prizes and trophies, for their triumphs in the Premier Division, FA Trophy and the Big-Four competitions. The prizes were sponsored by entrepreneur Darryl Mahabir, national women’s head coach Even Pellarud and TTFF.

Dimension lost only one match in the league throughout the entire season, largely due to the tireless efforts of goalkeeper Keri Myers, and outfield players Rhea Belgrave, Afiyah Matthias and Janine Francois, all of whom were selected in the team of the year.

Club co-founder Randolph Price was given a plaque for his efforts in the development of the women’s game. T&T Football Federation (TTFF) technical director Anton Corneal, executive member Ewing Davis, WoLF president Sharon O’Brien and sponsor Mahabir, along with stakeholders in the league and the TTFF were present to distribute the awards to the successful teams.

Pellarud was unable to attend the ceremony but was lauded by the league’s committee for his sponsorship of the Big-Four competition and his general contribution to women’s football.

Mahabir, owner of Japs Chicken, was also thanked profusely for his part in assisting the league. The three teams promoted from the First Division to next season’s Premier Division include Step by Step, St Augustine SC and St Ann’s Rangers, which is expected to begin in April.
