DEFENDING champions Juventus began their quest to defend their title by playing unbeaten on the opening day of the 3rd annual SW Touring Tobago Invitational Masters Over 40 football tournament which began at the Courland Sporting Complex, Black Rock yesterday.

Juventus played in the opening match of the day against Defence Force but were held to a 1-1 draw by the Army Coast-Guard Combination. 

The St. John’s Road, St Augustine team then recorded two wins against Twin Island and WASA with similar 1-0 scorelines to top group A with 7 points. 

Defence Force lie in second with four points, ahead of Twin Island (3). Roger Callendar was top scorer for Juventus getting his side equaliser against Defence Force and also netting the lone item against Twin Island. 

The Army later edged WASA 1-0 courtesy a Keshall Alexander goal. Twin Island whipped Bethel 3-0. Clinton Corbin led the way with a second half double. 

Meanwhile in group B, 1976 Pheonix is leading with three points after a slender 1-0 triumph against Curepe All Stars. Everton Mc Kain got the match’s lone item. 

THA Assemblyman Huey Cadette came on as a substitute in the second half for Pheonix. Curepe recovered from a loss in their opening game to Juventus to whip Break Away 4-0 but remain in second, also on three points. 

The group action continues today from 10 am with the semifinals and finals carded for later in the day. 

Phoenix will face Northside in the first game of the day to be followed a clash between Defence Force and Bethel. 

Other matches: WASA vs Twin Island, Pheonix vs Break Away, Juventus vs Bethel, Defence Force vs Twin Island, Curepe vs Northside. 

The top two teams in GroupA and the top side in Group B qualify for the semifinals with the second placed team in Group B battle the third place finisher in Group A for the final semifinal spot.
