League leader, Goal City FC returned to winning ways in commanding fashion on Wednesday, when the club thrashed rock-bottom 1976 FC Phoenix, 4-0 to keep a five-point gap at the top of the Tobago Football Association Premier Division.

The team’s leading scorer Kayode Legall scored a brace for his third goal in two matches, while Ari Benjamin and Akell Dennis scored one each.

The victory kept Goal City with a five-point lead over second placed Mason Hall eight above Roxborough Lakers. The latter team scored yet another comfortable victory, this time 4-1 over Bethel United. Kirn Harris also scored a brace and three goals in two matches as Roxborough remain in the hunt having played on less match than the top two teams.

Goal City (35 points) and Mason Hall (30 points) have three matches to play, while Roxborough and Sideys both sit on 27 points, with four matches remaining. The bottom two teams in the standings, Bethel Utd and 1976 FC Phoenix, are already represented in the National Super League by their first teams.

The league winner will also seek a spot in the NSL, the country’s second tier football competition, through the Champions of Champions qualifiers, which comprises the winners of each zones, the North, South, Tobago, East, Central and Eastern Counties.
