Kerry Baptiste scored on either side of the half on Saturday to rebound Play Whe San Juan Jabloteh after conceding first against Police FC, but the “San Juan Kings”’ captain’s performance wasn't enough for maximum points at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

Police FC utility player, Noel Williams, who set up the opening item scored by Kerry Frederick, netted the equaliser against his former employers to tie the match 2-2.

Earlier, in the opening match of the Digicel Pro League Round Two Match Day One double header at the Macoya venue, forward Richard Roy scored early to give Defence Force a 1-0 win over North East Stars and in the process leapfrogged the Sangre Grande club for third position on the league standings.

Roy made no mistake from close up when he directed Josimar Belgrave’s pass into the back of goalkeeper Cleon John’s net. Belgrave had dispossessed defender Dwane James, who was replaced by coach Angus Eve shortly afterwards, wide of the area before finding his teammate near goal.

North East Stars, now down a spot into fourth with 14 points from 9 matches, threw everything at the Defence Force in search of an equaliser which never came. Eve’s men even had a stoppage time penalty shout waved off by referee Cecil Hinds before the final whistle came and Defence Force interim head coach Marvin Gordon was celebrating maximum points.

Defence Force, now with 16 points from 9 matches, are only behind leaders Central FC (20 points from 9 matches) and defending champions DIRECTV W Connection (17 points from 8 matches) in second.

In the second match, between two teams occupying lower positions on the ladder, Police took a 1-0 advantage over Jabloteh in the 19th minute of play.

Noel Williams, who later scored the match equaliser, provided the crucial pass that allowed wide attacking midfielder Kerry Frederick a free run towards goal before slipping the ball past goalkeeper Raheem Belgrave, who was hung out to dry by his defence.

But ten minutes later Baptiste levelled the scores 1-1, beating Adrian Foncette on the other end from just inside the area after an errant clearance by the Police goalkeeper fell to him above the box.

Then on the 51st minute, Baptiste completed his double, with only his third league goal this season, for a 2-1 Jabloteh lead after he was picked out by Fabrian Reid and struck past Foncette at the near post.

Baptiste was inches wide of a third item on the night in the 65th minute with a free kick some 24 yards out but it swerved too early for the double goal scorer’s liking.

However a Jabloteh win was scrapped by former player Williams who scored in the 73rd minute, tying the match at 2-2.

Williams made up for a bundle of misses by teammate Jameel Perry by composing himself solidly inside the area on meeting substitute Marcus Chandool’s ball and hitting past a hapless Cleon John.

With the point earned, Jabloteh and Police continues to occupy positions 7th and 8th respectively with 10 points each after nine matches.

The DPL will resume next weekend with a top of the table clash between Central FC and W Connection in Round Two Match Day Two.

The weekend will also see community based teams North East Stars against Point Fortin Civic and Police against Defence Force in a battle of the armed forces. Cellar positioned St. Ann’s Rangers will also be in action against Jabloteh, while Caledonia are on the bye.
