RECENTLY promoted TT Pro League team, Club Sando, had a positive start to their pre-season campaign as they played host to a special “Feed the Homeless” drive in the squad’s hometown at Harris Promenade, San Fernando, yesterday.

Members of the club and their growing fan-base converged on the Promenade from approximately 11am and openly gave a healthy lunch to any homeless person who frequented the area.

Harris Promenade is known to “house” many street dwellers and this was one of the main reasons that this location was chosen.

Club Sando is presently seeking sponsorship for the coming competitive season and has opted to host several charity and off-beat events to get closer to the public, fans and hopefully inspire a long term investor into the blossoming club.

The drive was facilitated by owners Edison “Eddie” Dean and Marlon Zoe, who applauded the insight of their players for bringing forward such a unique initiative to the less fortunate.

“We’re into the ProLeague now and want to set an early example off the field,” said a smiling Zoe yesterday.

“This programme was thought up by club members and will not be the last. We have a couple other initiatives just as this, that we are going to put in motion as the weeks go by. This is just the start of Club Sando extending its arms to the public and getting closer to our fans.”

Team member and former Naparima College standout striker Ateba McKnight also revealed that the south-based club will continue pursuing excellence both on and off the field as they seek to maintain a position among Trinidad and Tobago’s top-flight football teams.

“In approximately two weeks we want to have a beach clean up.

“We’re hoping to begin with San Fernando and environs and hopefully make it up to Central as the year progresses.

“Club Sando is also seeking sponsorship so we are hoping some of our good works reap dividends for the club in the long run.

However, we are happy doing what we are doing for the homeless today (yesterday),” added McKnight.

The club’s newest “kit” will be unveiled in the coming weeks, a sports and family day is scheduled to kick off and the launch of a relief programme for under-privileged kids are all projects on the Club Sando 2015 schedule. Also on hand were members of the club’s youth team and an avid growing fan-base of fellow Southerners.
