Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Senior Team continued their winning ways with a convincing 8-1 victory over St Lucia in the second leg of the CFU Olympic qualifying playoff at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Sunday night.

The result meant they were 14-1 winners on aggregate, sailing into the semi-final phase of the completion in a few days.

Ahkeela Mollon led the onslaught with a beavertrick, scoring in the 12th, 32nd, 81st and 83rd minutes. And North American-based player Lauryn Hutchinson added a double in the 23rd and 26th minutes, with Naomie Guerra netting in the 65th and Sharain Cummings in the 87th to finish of the St Lucians who got a lone goal in the 58th minute through a penalty by Ellaisa Marquis.

T&T coach Anthony Creece described the win as well orchestrated, saying that the hosts were intent on sealing the deal on the night.

“We came out and won the game handsomely and the team was determined to do that,” Creece told TTFA Media.

“They played very good as a unit and the group is growing more and more everytime they are together. It was more pleasing to see the progress and the way in which we took control of the game because we know the next opponent, Jamaica, will be a much different level and we want to be in good shape for that semi-final match,” Creece added.

T&T now faces Jamaica in the second semi-final on Wednesday from 7:30pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium. The winner will meet the winner of the other encounter between Puerto Rico and Guyana which kicks off at 5pm, in the final on Friday.

The losing semi-finalists will square off in a third place playoff with the top three finishers advancing to the CONCACAF Finals next February in the United States. Two two teams will qualify for the Rio Olympics. The teams already through to the eight-team CONCACAF Finals include the US, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala and Costa Rica.
