MARIAH SHADE, the Trinidad and Tobago women’s football team striker, is currently in France on a five-month long stint with US (Union Sportive) Rouvroy, in the French Women’s League.
For Shade, a regular member of the national women’s team in 2014 and 2015, this will be her first spell of professional football in Europe, following in the footsteps of her “Women Soca Warriors” teammates Kennya “Yaya” Cordner and Ahkeela Mollon.
In related news, United Statesborn defender Lauryn Hutchinson had successful surgery on her left knee on Wednesday at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Centre, in the US.
The defender was injured in a non-contact play on the Alamodome turf in a friendly against World Cup champions US, on December 10 in Texas when she was forced to leave the game in the 16th minute, and sadly will not be available for next month’s Olympic qualifiers.
